What do you do when your heater blows out cold air?
If your system is blowing cold air when it should be hot, there may be several different causes. These can include:
- It’s possible that the pilot light has shut off. If you have a newer unit with an electronic pilot light, but with older models, you may need to re-light the pilot light safely
- The flame sensor within your furnace may need to be reset by turning the heating unit off and on. In some cases, the flame sensor may be dirty, if so, call a technician to handle the job as this involves opening up the gas burner which if done wrong, could damage your unit
- You may have a clogged or dirty filter making it difficult for the air to enter the chamber properly. Always check your filter’s size before changing it
If the above issues don't seem to be the cause, call in a heating expert. Poking around in your system to try a DIY fix can be dangerous, and you could cause more damage, which is expensive and time-consuming to repair.
