What do you do when your heater blows out cold air?
When your ducted heater starts pushing out chilly air instead of warmth, it’s usually a sign that something simple has gone wrong. Before you book a service call, run through these quick checks:
Ducted heating blowing cold air? Run through this checklist first
- Pilot light out - Older models rely on a standing pilot. If it’s out, relight it carefully according to the manual. (Newer systems use electronic ignition and will show a fault code instead.)
- Flame sensor issue - Switch the unit off at the isolator, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on. If the sensor is dirty it won’t detect the flame; leave cleaning to a licensed tech because it involves opening the burner chamber.
- Blocked return - air filter - A clogged filter starves the burner of air and the system shuts down. Replace or clean the filter (check the size printed on the frame).
If none of these steps restore warm airflow, avoid DIY fixes that can damage the furnace or void your warranty—call a qualified technician instead. Thinking about an upgrade? Explore our latest ducted heating systems for efficient, trouble - free comfort.
